Although I planned to wait until the end of the month to tell you what I’m reading, this prayer from the book and what I thought about afterward were so good that I had to share it today.
.
From the book, The Battle Plan For Prayer, by Steven and Alex Kendrick, comes this prayer:
.
“Heavenly Father, I do want prayer to be my first response to every situation that occurs in my life. Instead of worrying, instead of complaining, instead of taking credit, instead of celebrating without You, teach me to come to You before going anywhere or to anyone else. What a comfort to know I can never be in a place that You’re not already there to hear me and help me. I intend to be in that place more often myself.” In Jesus’s Name, I pray. Amen.
.
What Stuck Out
As I was reading this prayer the phrase “what a comfort to know I can never be in a place that you’re not already there” stuck out. How many times do we do things that we know are not right but don’t think about the fact that we’ve dragged God into that very situation with us? Ouch. I don’t know why that stuck out so blatantly. Maybe it’s just the way I read. Maybe it’s my analytical mind. Maybe it was the double negative.

I Know You’re Busy
I know that this season and this time of year is a busy time. The upcoming week is a really busy time. We’re all busy with many things but I wanted to just encourage you to take the time to pray in this busy season. I don’t know about you, but “getting it off my chest” brings me more peace. And, doing that with God is safe. He won’t repeat it on FaceBook, He won’t gossip to your co-workers, friends, neighbors or anyone else. And when we learn to share with Him, then listen for direction, we learn to follow His lead. That makes our life better.
.
Prayer doesn’t have to be an hour alone praying to God or going to church and praying. Those things are good and they have their place, but prayer is also something we can and should just do continually throughout the day. That was the focus of this chapter. Let’s take the time to converse with our Heavenly Father throughout the day as we encounter good things, bad things, difficult things, hurtful things, and as we see the needs of others. Remember that God is right there beside you, ready to listen, willing to listen, and able to help, advise, counsel and console, IF we just turn to Him.
.
Be encouraged today.
