National Bean Day
Today is National Bean Day. To celebrate, let’s have some sort of bean dish today.
Most people like SOME type of bean. Be it pork and beans or refried beans or bean soup or chili with beans…most people like some bean recipes.
Recipe Ideas
Bean Dip. For football enthusiasts, today is a perfect day to have bean dip. You could make the normal “Taco Dip” that even your deli counter probably has ready for game day, or this one: National Day Calendar’s Mexican Bean and Chicken Dip. Use up your leftover chicken. About a half pound will do – more or less. Just shred or mince it.
Others may want a nice warming Hearty Bean Stew
What about a nice bowl of Chili with Beans?? This Beef Chili with Beans is written by the famous Grant Achatz – the mastermind chef behind the famous Alinea restaurant. When a restaurant can command $500 a plate and is books months and months in advance, I think we can trust a recipe by that caliber chef. You may need to make a trip to a Mexican grocery store for the special chili powders needed.
While some people may say that this is not technically a bean, lentils are a legume, thus considered a bean. I did a post on the way I make Lentil Soup a while back. I almost always have lentil soup in the freezer. It’s a family favorite. Try taking out the oregano in that recipe and instead at the end add a tsp of cumin and just shy of a 1/2 cup of liquid
There are so many ways to have beans. Make plans to enjoy some beans soon.
