Happy Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day can be a very happy day or a sad day. Even those who have a partner, it can still be a sad day. I’ve written a few posts about Love and Valentine’s in the past. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, I will give you links to past posts today. I encourage you to read both the blog about Expectations and the one about What Is (True) Love Anyway? Then move on to the one on romance and the food.
How Can We Create a Special Day?
Did you get the heart-shaped Ramekins from Aldi last week (or in previous years)? You can easily make individual meatloaves in them. Just remember to drain any fat before serving. It doesn’t all have to be drained off, but if you see it swimming in fat, drain that. There was also a bigger one that you could make one big heart-shaped meatloaf. Again, drain any fat or place on a platter. Here’s one I did a couple of years ago:
You could also use that Ramekin to bake individual fruit dishes – apple pie filling with a crumble on top would be our favorite. No crust is necessary.
I’ve also purchased from Aldi a heart-shaped silicone baking “pan” for cupcakes. Of course, you can make brownies in them.
I have also used it to make heart-shaped rolls.
I’ve used it to make some little spiced vegetable things that I love. The original recipe said they were “cookies.” I’ve also seen them called tots or nuggets. Whatever they are called, if you make a vegetable dish that can be formed or even a potato dish that can be formed, put them in the heart-shaped mold and bake.
Any time you put food in a special shape, the food becomes cute and fun. The heart shape says “love.” I do this other times of the year, too. Because saying “I love you” shouldn’t be reserved just for special days.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
